God, they are making it hard for me to resist 25mm Napoleonics. |

Interesting issue raised by that slip there. These are 28mm and amongst the larger 28mm at that. Foundry Perry figures were smaller. Early Perry Miniature eg some Netherlands and Brunswickers are smaller than the latest releases. I always think of 25mm as Hinchliffe size….great in their day. Do I understand correctly that Perry are going to release four different boxes of plastic Austrian cavalry? That would be almost incredible, especially as the British only have two and the French three boxes of cavalry. Or is the idea a single box that will have three hussars, three cuirassiers etc, with command figures to come from the metal ranges?

Elsewhere I am told that this Facebook thing tells us two boxes for Austrian cavalry…..but quite how the four units will be split…. |

Pointed saddlecloths in plastic! Hurrah for all the new conversions now possible! |

I do sympathise with von W's comment. It may be churlish to not just say…….well done Perrys. Great that they are going to even further expand their plastic range. But a few more horse poses would be nice now. The picture does suggest that some necks have been slightly altered actually. New Greenstuff? Most horses can be sawed in half and front/back quarter of a horse can be swapped around. OK, then you have some leg variation, but heads….nope still the same

You can tell that I really mean it. I thought I had beaten the accidental repeats. Apologies

I'm delighted by this news. I had been hoping Perry would make these for years. I think it's safe to assume that the box will follow the established Perry pattern with each horse made up from a left and right side. With three horses on each sprue that gives nine slightly different poses. Honestly it's beyond me why other plastic manufacturers haven't copied the idea. I also imagine that these will be perfectly compatible with the existing Perry metal Austrian cavalry, which should result in more horse poses. But maybe that was von Winterfeldt's point, that Perry horse poses tend to be the same across sets? I understand it may be one box for the cuirassiers / dragoons / chevaux-leger and one box for the hussars -- though I'm not quite sure how that will work for the horses as the chevaux-leger had the light cavalry harness. I just think it's brilliant that these could be coming. ;-) I should just about have finished all the Austrian infantry that I still have to paint by the time these come out. ;-) |

Unless of course (and I do hesitate to mention this) they share the fate of the Perry Prussian Reserves in plastic. They had huge conversion potential. We saw the 3ups….some investment went into them. One day Christies or Sothebys of London will sell the originals for millions. But we never saw them Thomas, the apostle, did not believe until…you know the rest. JC said "Blessed are those that have not seen, yet still believe". |

I think I posted a title on TMP called 'Plastic Austrian cavalry, anyone?' maybe a year ago. Evidently someone out there heard my plea… |

Look really forward to add some Austrian cavalry regiments to the collection with these minis. Would like to make the 5th Column from Austerlitz. |

I think the Perry's have to keep up with the competition now. Avanpost is producing some of the best if not THE best 28mm Napoleonic figures on the market today so the Perry's have to respond. All of this is great for us as we'll get fantastic looking figures from all of them! |

I do agree that avantpost minis look great, but they are more for the collector than the gamer. It gets quite expensive to build an army with them. I may buy a few officers and special troops for variety, however I think the Perry minis also have a quite good quality and are the best "price/performance" choice. The choice of minis for the period is unmatched by any other manufacturer. Especially the plastics range is excellent for creating larger formations, and I love their cavalry. Only thing is that it would be great to have a few more choices of horses for the cavalry. |
