All,
I am painting a 1/600th model of the Ouchita from Brown Water Navy. I know it was a "tinclad", but photos seem to show several different shades on the boat. Anyone have good information on how to paint it?

No rule of thumb for this period. Based on the photos, I would say:

Lower levels and hull: Medium grey or a washed brown
Decks: washed brown
Upper level: light grey or cream with a brown wash
Pilothouse and deck structures – as lower levels
Stacks: charcoal

Since it was built as a civilian river steamer before it was impounded by the Confederacy and its subseqwuent csapure by the US. In both services it probably retained its original civilian colors which would be predominately white superstructures. Since white would provide the most visibility on the river, especially at night, so other vessels could see and avoid each other.
