You were asked – TMP link

Are You a Navy Veteran?

17% said "yes"
1% said "I am currently serving in the naval armed forces"

My grandpa (a WWI trenches vet) told my dad he should join Navy in WWII. Told him they get three hots and a cot and are never more than a mile from solid ground – even if it is usually straight down.

My dad was in the Navy in 1958-1960, and the highlight of his career was getting to meet Jerry Lewis when Hollywood filmed a movie aboard his destroyer.

I didn't vote, but I'm a Navy Veteran.

17 + 1 = 18% which is closer to 1-in-6. (1/6 = 16 2/3 % ; 1/5 = 20%)

Were some fractions dropped due to rounding? That would put the total closer to 19% which is more nearly 1-in-5.

I'm not knocking our naval veterans and servicemen. Thank you for your service! Just responding to the stats.

Son of a WWII Navy veteran here. Wife is the daughter of a pre WWII USN veteran.

I served in the Navy RCN but didn't see this poll.

The sample size is a considerably smaller than the TMP membership.

I know a couple of hundred wargamers and I know of two who are ex Navy and one of them is a yank.
