I saw a video of a guy wearing rubber gloves while painting. He was brushing on a wash, not dipping or anything particularly wet but it struck me odd. I don't even wear gloves when I spray prime\seal.

JimDuncanUK03 Jun 2019 3:01 a.m. PST

Maybe he's a bit sensitive.

Mr Jones03 Jun 2019 3:05 a.m. PST

I wear a glove when I'm holding a model (by the base) that I'm spraying. I didn't used to, but got fed up cleaning the paint off my fingers.

Torquemada03 Jun 2019 3:08 a.m. PST

I always wear latex surgical gloves and a respirator when spaying (can or airbrush), but not when using a normal brush.

Cavcmdr03 Jun 2019 3:15 a.m. PST

Seems like a good idea to me. I am sloppy when washing figures. I only wear one "garage" glove when spraying.

No longer interested03 Jun 2019 4:18 a.m. PST

It's a good way to avoid leaving fingerprints on the model. Useful if your hands are sweaty or the FBI is looking for you.

I don't even use gloves while priming. I lose sensivity on the fingers and the sprayed paint tend to attach much, much better to the glove than the hand ruining the paint on the model.

Yes

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 4:37 a.m. PST

Not yet but a good idea

whitphoto03 Jun 2019 5:02 a.m. PST

When airbrushing or applying wash (I'm sloppy) I wear a glove on the hand I hold the mini with.

roving bandit03 Jun 2019 5:30 a.m. PST

I wear gloves most of the day. At work, in the yard, casting minis, painting minis, whatever.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 5:31 a.m. PST

How can random people know I'm a wargamer if I don't go around with paint on my hands?

nnascati Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 5:41 a.m. PST

I wear "exam" gloves when priming, so I don't get my hands covered with Gesso.

rustymusket03 Jun 2019 6:40 a.m. PST

I tied wearing gloves for spraying, but don't do it any more. Inconvenient. Not a bad idea when spraying along with a mask or respirator.

Choctaw03 Jun 2019 6:44 a.m. PST

If I'm having an outbreak of eczema I will. Getting paint into the cracks in my hands isn't fun.

jdpintex03 Jun 2019 6:44 a.m. PST

Nope.

Cerdic03 Jun 2019 7:11 a.m. PST

Only when welding, or cycling in cold weather….

tomrommel103 Jun 2019 7:36 a.m. PST

when resin casting always, when airbrushing sometimes, wile painting with a brush never.

tigrifsgt03 Jun 2019 7:38 a.m. PST

Only when I hand paint a base coat. Since I'm covering the whole figure I can afford to be a little sloppy.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 7:39 a.m. PST

I use disposable plastic gloves when spraying on primer, but I don't use them when I paint with a brush.

CeruLucifus03 Jun 2019 8:07 a.m. PST

I use one or both gloves when airbrushing.

Have never used gloves when brushpainting, but occasionally realize it's a good idea.

I use them regularly for housepainting, staining wood, applying shoe polish, etc.

leidang03 Jun 2019 8:16 a.m. PST

Sometimes one when spraying mini's otherwise not for mini's but I often do when painting larger terrain items especially when washing them.

KSmyth03 Jun 2019 10:03 a.m. PST

Only when I walk my dogs on winter mornings.

Dagwood03 Jun 2019 10:06 a.m. PST

No.

Since I currently fix figures to a champagne-style cork before painting, my fingers are safe from the paint (mostly).

14Bore03 Jun 2019 10:40 a.m. PST

No

Personal logo Flashman14 Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 10:47 a.m. PST

I should add his paintbrush hand also had a glove on it.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART03 Jun 2019 11:03 a.m. PST

I'm more of a mitten man myself.

wehrmacht03 Jun 2019 11:14 a.m. PST

Yes – when riding a motorcycle, doing yard work, or in the wintertime.

When painting miniatures – no.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 11:25 a.m. PST

No. My fingers are clumsy enough without additional barriers.

coopman03 Jun 2019 11:35 a.m. PST

No

Zephyr103 Jun 2019 2:33 p.m. PST

Only when stripping/cleaning minis in denatured alcohol…

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 2:45 p.m. PST

Never for the hobby.

377CSG Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 3:01 p.m. PST

Only respirator mask when spraying.

Personal logo T Callahan Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 3:23 p.m. PST

I wear a glove on my left hand when I sit brush or use a spray can.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 3:29 p.m. PST

Only in the winter if it is cold enough … wink

Now if I use spray paint I do it outside or in my well ventilated garage.

Zeelow03 Jun 2019 3:50 p.m. PST

I have no fear of peindre-phobia.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 3:51 p.m. PST

I wear latex or nitrile gloves and safety glasses when spray painting. I sometimes wear gloves when painting terrain, especially large pieces and table covers, because that often gets messy at an almost Jackson Pollack scale.

I almost always wear fingerless leather gloves for bicycle riding. I actually have gloves in the glove compartments of our cars (leather in one and polyester fleece in the other), in case it's colder than I expected when I left the house.

Jeez, my manual dexterity is bad enough already!

Makhno191803 Jun 2019 4:27 p.m. PST

Legion 4 stole my joke: only when it's snowing. I don't like to wear gloves

Cavcmdr03 Jun 2019 6:13 p.m. PST

Anyone wear matching boots as well?

Oops. Wrong site!

Hehe ;-)

von Schwartz03 Jun 2019 6:40 p.m. PST

No, but a nice matching handbag always completes the ensemble.

Syrinx003 Jun 2019 7:00 p.m. PST

No handbags for painting but I do use a glove on one hand to hold the figure or vehicle when I am irbrushing on the primer or basecoats. I usually attach the figure to a handle or stick to avoid the finger print issue.

Chuckaroobob03 Jun 2019 9:33 p.m. PST

Nope

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2019 10:03 p.m. PST

Only when I check my prostate.

Perhaps he is a professional hand model.

Anyone wear matching boots as well?

Oops. Wrong site!

A miniatures wargaming site is definitely NOT the wrong place to talk about matching boots and gloves!

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP04 Jun 2019 5:01 a.m. PST

LOL ! evil grin

14Bore04 Jun 2019 3:53 p.m. PST

My no assumed we were talking anything to do with miniatures.

Covert Walrus05 Jun 2019 5:21 p.m. PST

Not as a rule. I did when using epoxy glues and body fillers for some projects, due to skin sensitivity/allergy issues, but certyainly not painting.
