Would a drummer (or drummers) be in the line within a regiment? Or are they at the Brigade level?

The Drum was very often used to transmit commands from the Regiment Commander to the troops, especially when the noise of battle made it difficult for the verbal commands from officers to be heard above the din of battle.

The field music (fifes and drums) of a regiment would be consolidated and posted behind the regiment when it was in line of battle. Position X in the diagram.
