Seen this book advertised recently and was wondering if anyone had read it? Is it any good? The Amazon reviews are mixed. Sixty Battles The Complete Battles of Napoleon Bonaparte from Toulon to Waterloo Authory Ricky D Phillips TimeCast |

I made the mistake of buying it. It was a waste of money. The battle summaries are bare-bones lists and descriptions, there are no maps, and all the information in the book can be found with a quick Google search. This book might have been useful before the Inernet, but is not relevant now. |

Ricky Phillips is an amazing fraud, making claims about his status as a "military hisorian" that are patently false. For an interesting and completely thorough debunking of Mr. Phillips and all his allegations of historical veracity and greatness, see this: link And the "Sixty Battles" book? Pretty decent for kindling. |

I'm only surprised that Hamilton Williams did not appear in support of Ricky. |

Thanks chaps I don't think I'll bother buying a copy after all – I'll do better to stick to my copies of Chandler, Esposito, Nafziger, Digby Smith, Rothenburg et al… :-) |

I think you have made a wise decision. :D |

Don't be surprised if this "author" shows up to defend his work and castigate all who disagree with his pronouncements. He routinely trolls unfavorable review on Amazon and elsewhere. |

It would be fun to host him here on the Napoleonic boards. |

Indeed. Does anyone remember John Franklin's appearance here sometime in 2015? He was amazingly full of his writing, his credentials, himself, and so much more besides, and was in full attack-mode in his posts. And then he disappeared… |

From what I remember he was very knowledgeable but rather liked to pontificate. Of course, that could describe quite a large portion of the contributors here. :D |

Oh, Texas Jack, you are indeed right, from both sides of the aisle as they say. I prefer a healthy dose of snark followed by a bit of middle of the road reason. |

Hereīs a link to my all time favorite Napoleonic boards dust up: TMP link Things start of innocuously with the OP making the bold claim that he enjoys this hobby, but on page two things turn ugly when Gazzola (of all people) becomes offended by the term "toy soldier", itīs quite a hoot. To be fair, the OP cross-posted to other boards, but it is pure Napoleonic board-ish in itīs breadth of absurdity. Oh, and it runs 9 pages. |
