So couldn't resist a sale on the BA rules while I was getting some other things at Noble Knight – it was only $5 USD new! I am a fan of Alessio Cavatore, and have enjoyed Kings of War and Terminator Genesys. I'm reading the rules and the infantry mechanics look pretty interesting. If I was going to try this with a pal, what are some pitfalls I should look out for ahead of time? As the rules have been around for a while, are there any addenda or FAQ that I should review first? Or any weapons / characters / squads that are broken? I mainly have 15mm figures based for Flames of War – can I use them for BA games with a little tweaking? Finally, what would you say are the design and game mechanic strengths, and what are its weaknesses, e.g. "portrays small arms fire well but Off-Board artillery is to easy to arrive on time". I was also thinking of using this with Star Wars figures as a generic squad game. Overall, it reminds me of 40K WWII. |

There is a second edition. I bought it several months ago. Don't know which one you have, of course. As long as the figs you use are consistent, there should not be a problem. Details I will leave up to others who are better at analyzing those things. Have fun! |

BA is a system built for 40k style players. There is an inability to divide up units and use fire and maneuver tactics. It's a very unrealistic go at WWII small unit warfare. But if you're looking for something light and are of a younger age group, it can be enjoyable. |

Bolt Action is a very enjoyable game – does not take a lot of $$ to get started, and a game can be played to the finish in 2+ hours. You build your list to your liking, so it is very personalized. Fun and easy to play once you have mastered the rules, but challenging enough to in no way assure an easy victory. Most of us here enjoy fun, fast and playable games – not overly complicated with lots of book searching. Most Bolt Action games can be played without looking at the rule book every turn. Jump in and enjoy it – we have build an amazing Bolt Action community here in Texas: Texas Bolt Action group. |

Hah, "Too good to be true", yes it is 2012 edition, so I'm assuming first print. Not really concerned as don't care about competing and will do historical / mission oriented scenarios. Long as there are multiple maneuver elements, e.g. Units, I don't see why one cannot have fire and maneuver. Aren't the MG teams and such providing the fire with some squads while the rest of the squads maneuver? And one can always buy some small 5-man squads with LMGs and 5 with rifles for a sub-unit. Heck, the game has overwatch and a moving shot, also. Anyway, it's the mechanics not BA community I'm interested in. I've no intention of playing it in 28mm. |

I think the truncated ranges are the most awkward thing to the more historically minded. Easy to change that. |
