However, nothing could be further from the truth. The history of Canada is a history rich in class struggle: rich in struggles for the overthrow of the established order and the establishment of a new one.

The rebellions of 1837-1838 in Upper and Lower Canada constitute one of the most important episodes of this history. It was a classic example of a situation in which the class contradictions reached a point where an open confrontation had to break out…."

Oi. I'm not one to shy away from leftist sources, but this site seems committed to twisting all historical events to fit the Marxist dialectic.

The 1837-38 revolt of the French Canadian "Patriotes" was
NATIONALIST, based on French identity, not inherently one of class. Although its true that the Anglos set up their regime to keep Anglos on top, and Francos on the bottom.

Note that the conflict predates Marx's writings by a full ten years.
