After years of having this in mind I've finally got round to re-visiting the Italian wars in 28mm. I sold off my Connoisseur Swiss army about 30 years ago (gulp). So here we go, first Burgundian pike block and some crossbowmen finished, a mixture of Perry plastics and metals, plus some foundry. I hope you like them.

Very nice. What rules are you using?

Nice start. Since you are painting Swiss and Burgundians, I assume you are doing late 15th century, rather than the "Italian Wars" of the 16th century (i.e., 1494 to 1529-ish)? If so, it'd be great to see Italian troops from Milan, Venice, Florence, etc. in the mix. Quite colorful and a real interesting period.

Rules are a sticking point…no standout contender yet… and yes, there will be Italians….and French, and probably imperialists….that's the trouble/great thing with this period!

Make it real :-)

For that era I always fancied the various armies from Charles and his adversaries before Neuss to the campaigns of Maximilian and Albrecht vs. Louis and Charles. Wish that there were units to build the Hungarian army under Corvinus.

A most interesting era.

I was always tempted by the hex based rules published in Henry Hyde's Battlegames magazine, but I think your units might be too big to sit within a hex.

Just make the hex larger. ;-)

Or you could put a square unit in a square grid. I have heard that square grids are becoming quite popular. ;-)
