On a recent visit to US Army Brussels I took a Saturday morning and went to Waterloo. I always carry a painting kit with me on trips to fill down-time, and this trip was no different. Of course I was painting Napoleonics.

I decided to carry some of my French heavy cavalry to the battlefield. Here is my report to the Lone Star Historical Miniatures (LSHM) newsletter:

A shame the link to the pictures doesn't appear to be working.

A picture of your troopers on the field the real ones once charged would have been priceless.
Thanks for sharing a trip I wish I could make

Charlie, I too visited the Waterloo battlefield in 1986, when I was stationed in W. Germany. I haven't been back since. However, last July, 2018, I went to Paris and while visiting Les Invalides I carried along my little 18mm Napoleon figure. Like you and your excellent Cuirassiers, I took several photos of Napoleon stuff with my miniature in the picture. With respect, here are a few.

This was my ticket to Les Invalides.

It just seemed to me that my little Napoleon should have been to France.

Thanks for looking.

God bless,
John T.

What always impresses me is the Gratuit Militaire.

The French are suggested to be so xenophobic…..and they can be, when it comes to military matters, but they can show a certain style on occasion.

You would not get that in the UK.

Not totally fair. We might not be up with US standards but the Defence Discount Service, amongst others, does quite well for UK Service (and ex-Service) personnel.

Well, the National Army Museum is already free anyway to everybody, no matter where you come from.

A Royal Signals Reunion was held last weekend at Eden Camp (a commercial organisation). For the event not only did they offer Veterans free entry, but accompanying family as well. That was a normal entrance of £42.00 GBP for us and our adult sons.

Thank you Eden Camp for supporting this event.
