I saw this thread TMP link and immediately suffered flashbacks to how absurd these 1980s Civil War miniseries were. So in a head-to-head match-up, which was the worse of these two big ACW TV miniseries, North and South, or The Blue and the Gray? Patrick Swayze's terrible overacting or Stacey Keach's clairvoyant dreams?

I saw them both, also read "North and South" (Mexican American War) and "Love and War" (American Civil War) and enjoyed them both very much. Better than most of the crap Hollywood pumps out today…… |

They were both good. They were dramas, especially North and South rather than history. |

I watched them when they originally aired. Never felt the urge to ever again watch them. Some folks think Jerry Lewis was funny after he split with Dean Martin. Different ideas about entertainment – that's what puts butts in seats. |

I was on both movie sets == someone needs to experience what a Super=pair in the rear effort is required to produce any " dirt project " name Hollywood uses for having to do anything outdoors or even worse out in the country where real people have to work for a living. Maybe some day a super Arm-Chair-HISTORIAN will use 100 million of his own money and 10 years of his time to produce the perfect ACW Movie or TV-Mimi/series. They where both Good entertainment. N&S close to great to many folks who had a limited knowledge of U.S. History. I think B&G may have been the 1st project to use some ACW reenactors== the Screen Actors Union where super A-Holes for the 1st couple of Days until the Boss-Wheels saw that the reenactors gave them a good Weeks worth of footage in a Days time. Saving $$$ which was all they cared about. It didn't matter to them that the reenactors-- looked the part while the SAG people where in Modern work shirts and Cowboy Hats. They also had to have all of their Trapdoor springfields loaded by the Union -- Gun-Loading--- Guy. What would some people prefer No Historical Movies or enjoyable entertainment with much Historical information which will never be perfect. Ron |

I saw them both when they originally aired. I have very little memory of either series, so neither made an impression on me. |

Neither one was very good. |

I thought N and S had better production values and actors than B & G. Both plots were a bit weak. N & S II benefited enormously from my reenacting participation of course. |

I liked North and South as already said a generic drama of the period, well acted and felt right and very watchable |

I've seen them both, but don't remember the difference. I DO remember that one was godawful. Probably had horrid Southern accents, but then, most do. I'm still not sure why Brits do it better than Californians. |

Only saw North and South – basically a soap opera. |

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, criticize." Except that there are plenty who actually can't but think they can, and no one stops them, so they try to do, but really don't, and then get mad when those who can't but at least could admit it point out the folly in the whole thing. |
