You were asked – TMP link

Imagine that you're at a friend's home for a long day of gaming, and he volunteers to run down to the store for soda. What do you want?

And in the final round of voting:

22% said "Dr. Pepper"
22% said "Coca Cola"
12% said "Pepsi"

(That's not a tie, it's rounded off.)

mghFond24 May 2019 12:09 p.m. PST

Surprising, I know quite a few wargamers in my neck of the woods and not a single one drinks Dr. Pepper.

HMS Exeter24 May 2019 12:19 p.m. PST

I can't speak for all/most/any other gaming groups, but insofar as the group I game with, if one were to offer to get sodas, the response would be whatever,…where's the beer?

Dynaman878924 May 2019 12:20 p.m. PST

Diet Dr. Pepper. Only.

If one wants to drink something that tastes like medicine, why not go all the way and drink jagermeister?

Dr Pepper is great for cleaning the barbecue.

I think Russian (or Texan) bots have discovered Bill's polls. wink

I only voted once in each poll, but I did vote for the good doctor. It was the pop that got me through high school (obviously in the Rockies if you know your American word preferences). I still have one now and again. I'll be at a gaming convention this weekend, and will probably indulge.

Diet Dr Pepper for me or Diet Coke.

Don't really go for any fizzy drink, or fizzy beer/wine come to that.

Fruit juice or squash or a decent pale ale for me.

The last time I tried to buy Dr Pepper the vending machine took my money and didn't give me the drink. I wanted to try it since I have not seen it here since the mid seventies. These days I drink Dry Ginger ale.

I would ask for a FAYGO and it would have to be Red-Pop

von Schwartz24 May 2019 5:49 p.m. PST

The thing about soft drinks I miss most being down here in The Deep South is the lack of small batch brewed root beers and cream sodas. They don't seem to have any! In the Midwest you can find all kinds of root beers and cream sodas, each little town seems to have their own little home town favorite.

Originally when Dr. Pepper became available here in Finland in early80's I didn't really like it.

Fast forward to the end of the decade and me doing my mandatory army stint, I noticed then that Dr Pepper was the only drink available from the barrack's vending machine that you could drink completely without other guys asking for a sip.

That is how I developed a taste for it and it is now my favourite and preferred cola.

Naturally the next year they stopped manufacturing the damn thing around here :D

It took more than half a decade to get some companies to import it; I remember visiting UK during that time and drinking almost exclusively Dr Pepper -so much Pepper that I seem to recall even brushing my teeth with it.

Since then it has again become available at the regular stores.

Not a fan of fizzy pop. But a nice cuppa tea now, that's the ticket!

JMcCarroll25 May 2019 8:18 a.m. PST

If it's pop or soda a good Root beer is tops!

SpuriousMilius25 May 2019 8:20 a.m. PST

I attended college in Waco, Texas, & Dr. Pepper was ubiquitous of course, but I only drink sodas as mixers with liquor; IMO, Dr.P doesn't mix well with any booze that I enjoy.
Thus, +1 for Kpinder & Col. Campbell.

"Surprising, I know quite a few wargamers in my neck of the woods and not a single one drinks Dr. Pepper." Clearly not real gamers, or real men. :)

Yurg – I agree with the BarBQ cleaning idea

I believe that if you brush your teeth with Dr. Pepper for long enough, your teeth will disintegrate.

Thresher0125 May 2019 10:53 a.m. PST

Dr. Pepper?????

Wow, those poll results ARE just wrong…………

Not even sure I'd use it to clean the BBQ, since it might possibly impart some residual, bad taste.

von Schwartz25 May 2019 6:49 p.m. PST

Lonkka1Actual – that's usually the way isn't it? you find something you like and some mysterious "they" decide to stop making it.

BTW HAPPY belated St. Urho's Day (smile)

Buck21525 May 2019 10:04 p.m. PST

Dr. Pepper over Mr. Pibb- both very much the same, except Dr. Pepper went to school to get his Ph.D.

The Beast Rampant26 May 2019 6:14 p.m. PST

Doctor Pepper all the way, baby!

Ugh. I can't stand Dr. Pepper. I don't even know why.

Dandelion & Burdock would be my preference…

Spurred by this outcome, I was pleased to see that "Is Democracy Fair?" was still in print. Or at least, available.

Going through the grade school exercises in the book will enrage you about published polls that didn't come out the way you expect. Then it will enrage you the other way about the ones that did. ;)

This is likely an example of the classic "pizza problem".
