A professor of fine arts had an exhibition of various of his own abstract works on canvas. He was talking with me and my girlfriend about one of them, showing with a pencil how some shapes referred to real objects, and how he intended the eye to follow certain lines, and then suddenly his pencil flew up along a bright red object shaped much like the silver outline in the image linked.

"And .. oops," he said, then continued with his exposition. I suppose the Earth Wars Saga artist had a similar oops moment.

. . . I'm not seeing anything wrong here.

Is this like the "Speaking French is a vile insult" thing that you Deleted by Moderator have?

Ok, it looked fine, now it doesn't, probably because you led my mind into the gutter (a short trip to be sure).

I think that is a bit harsh on Covert Walrus.

It doesn't sound like name calling to me. It's just rhyming slang. Short for "septic tank" = "yank".

Now, yank has been a slang term for Americans in the rest of the English-speaking world for some considerable time. I don't believe it usually has any negative or insulting connotations. Merely a nickname!

It's the same as me, as a Brit, being called a Limey. Not offensive in any way, as far as I can see. Indeed, I believe there is a ruleset called Limeys and Slimeys? The existence of which suggests that the word Limey is not offensive.

By extension then, if the word Limey is equivalent to the word Yank, the word Yank is not offensive either.

So Covert Walrus, in an obviously jokey, banterish post, in effect using the term Yanks for Americans, is hardly guilty of 'name calling'!

Even unreconstructed Confederates don't consider Yank, Yankee, or Damn' Yankee to be insults. That's just what you call folks from the Sodom of the North.

They have much more creative insults.

Disclaimer: I myself am a damn' Yankee.

Just wait until Johnny Foreigner calls them a Yank! Then it's an insult.

Apologies for the offense, people.I should have worded it better and am chastised.

I still don't see the problem with the cover, though.
