Swords are obviously a relevant topic when discussing warfare, particularly if that includes skirmish gaming, Musketeers, GoT, and other not-strictly-military forms of gaming.

However, some readers may be uncomfortable with sword discussions on the other boards.

If we add a Swords board, then discussion of specific swords can be limited to that board, and people who wish not to see such discussions can opt out of that board.

Your input?

Might want to broaden it to include all forms of blades. Knives, razors, etc. grin

Also, do lightsabers count?

A Lot of Gaul23 May 2019 12:15 p.m. PST

I would not support such a board.

Why not a stone weapons board? Revolver board? Propeller propelled ordinance board? Feathered missiles board?

Stryderg23 May 2019 2:02 p.m. PST

Don't forget about unarmed combat (a Fists 'o Fury board), non-feathered missiles (slings and such), a pummeling board for maces and such, a flexible weapons board for flails and those 3 sticks with 2 chains oriental weapons.

Man, we sure have found a whole lot of ways to bring pain and suffering to others over the years. I would therefore support such a board in an effort to keep everyone comfortable.

You forgot the Artillery board grin

Nunchucks board

A pen board (because "The pen is mightier than the sword") which will then inspire such topics as "Nibs vs. ballpoints", "Embarrassing places your fountain pen leaked", "How stabby is your quill?", etc. ;-)

How about a strong words board?

Now just calm down there, no need for that kind of language here…

How to defend yourself against a person with freah fruit board

Walking Sailor24 May 2019 3:58 a.m. PST

Maybe a Pre-Gunpowder or Primitive Weapons board?

Artillery Board? Not unless you include Cavalry, and Infantry boards too.
And if you do that for the effing amateurs, the professionals will want a logistics board, but Gawd will that be dull.

I'm uncomfortable with sword discussions, period. After all, they are used to kill mothers' sons with.

If we have a "Firearms" board, I fail to see what harm a forum for the "other" weapons may do – except that we may fall into a merciless debate on the categories…

Blade weapons
Polearms
Bow & Crossbow

Or just "nonfire arms" for anything not propelled by burning chemicals?

Perhaps an "arms and armour" forum for any development spanning more then a specific period, with "firearms" as a subforum and "general" adhering to anything not specified (for the friends of the Nunchaku). The metalurgical comparisons between Longsword and Katana, or the differences between Macedonian and Swiss pike certainly need a home somwhere.

Glaive? Guisarme? Voulge? The full Gygax?

Walking Sailor24 May 2019 3:16 p.m. PST

I feel compelled to point out that we already need an energy weapons board.

Zephyr124 May 2019 9:05 p.m. PST

"Bow & Crossbow"

No, don't, there will be huge fights over which is better…

Thresher0125 May 2019 9:42 a.m. PST

Perhaps it should be called "The Edged Weapons" board, to be all inclusive to other things like machetes and kitchen knives too.

I'm for it and the other boards too:

Bow and Crossbow
Energy Weapons – big fan of plasma rifles
Artillery

And, of course, we must not leave out:

Siege Weapons – from the Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Modern (can cover post-Ren. – WWII), and UltraModern eras

Ninja Weapons

So … to Hell with rail guns?

I would not support such a board.

Maybe a nice pine board, or better yet, an oak board. Yeah, that'll make a dent.

Does this mean I have to register my sword shaped letter opener?

I was given a marlinspike (deckplate seamanship tool) by my men as a departing gift. I was not allowed to have it in my office because it was a weapon. Did I mention that it was mounted on to a plaque?

von Schwartz27 May 2019 4:29 p.m. PST

Was the plaque an oak board?
