That's a fun FAQ. Are they really frequent asked or is this really "frequently transgressed principles of decency and common sense?" I suspect most of the people who need those guidelines are not the kind of folks who ask questions ahead of time.
I do have a question about this part…
If I am upset with TMP, can I suggest companies should not advertise here?
Of course not.
Can I encourage people not to purchase Supporting Memberships if I am upset at TMP?
Absolutely not.
Two things. First, as written it says you're not allowed to express these things, period, nothing says this prohibition is limited to TMP. Does that mean you would DH someone who said these things on another forum? Or are these only prohibited on TMP? The latter seems reasonable, the former seems a little extreme.
Second, a petty boycott is pretty insulting. It would probably involve slander. It seems like dirty pool to disagree with someone and hold your own opinion so highly that you go after their livelihood. On the other hand, if someone, somehow, decided TMP was doing harm, what should they do? What is their recourse? Boycotts are a time tested, grass roots, political expression. It seems a little weird to say people are not allowed to boycott TMP.
99% of boycotts are stupid, but that's because anyone can "call for" one. Poking around the internet, it seems that if there isn't a boycott against TMP at the moment TMP may be the only thing on Earth not being boycotted by someone, somewhere.
Please understand that if someone suggested to me to boycott TMP I would ignore them and get on with my day. If they accused you of wrongdoing I would assume that they were in the wrong, not TMP. It just seems very strange to say you're not allowed to boycott.
