In April 2009 my wife and I started a fictional campaign based on the NaFictional Napoleonic 1813 Campaignpoleonic campaign of 1813. The aim was to provide interesting battles for us to wargame. The campaign has run nonstop since then, and to date has provided 284 wargames.

The campaign covers Germany and Spain and has five campaign areas, each with one French and one allied army. In Germany there are Prussian, Russian and Austrian armies. In Spain Anglo-Portuguese and Spanish.

The campaign is divided into campaign phases. These are stand alone mini campaigns similar in size to the Waterloo campaign. They run in sequence to ensure that each wargames army gets its turn on the table. Each phase lasts 10-15 campaign days, provides 3-5 battles and takes about three months to complete.

The campaign has developed over this period and adapted to meet changing circumstances and as a result of practical game play. It started as a solo campaign, quickly developed into a PBEM campaign and then reverted to solo again. The whole campaign has been recorded in a series of blogs, which record every day and has a battle report for every battle.

The latest Campaign Diary was started when the PBEM reverted to solo in December 2016. It contains a detailed record of all aspects of the campaign, including maps and orders of battle, plus the day to day report and battle reports.
This blog might be useful for anyone wanting to create a similar campaign

I have recently started to post a summary of the campaign, plus comments about rule development and background to the campaign, on my Napoleonic Wargaming blog. This might be of more interest for anyone who wants to follow the progress of the campaign in a less detailed and technical way.

I hope that these two blogs might prove of interest and would welcome any questions or comments.

I can thoroughly recommend following Thistlebarrow's campaign and Napoleonic Wargaming blogs. I do … and I've always enjoyed reading them.

Thanks for the recommendation Bob, I appreciate it.

The next phase of the campaign is set in Northern Germany around the town of Salzwedel.

There is an introduction to this phase on the campaign diary
link

This includes all maps used in this phase, a brief history of the campaign in Northern Germany and photos of the First French and Prussian army. It also has links for full orders of battle and more detailed information.
