Tabloids might call this "the untold story" of what caused the sinking of the submarine Scorpion in 1968. Probabilities that a Soviet torpedo, or safety and maintenance shortcomings, were to blame are extremely remote, according to the Special Assistant for Submarines to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research and Development at the time.
