The new movie documentary on the strategic bombing campaign over Germany in WWII, "The Cold Blue", will be shown this coming Thursday, at 7:30 PM, in select theaters. From the write up I've read, it sounds like an un-sanitized version of Memphis Belle. Apparently, some of the footage that will be shown in this documentary was cut from that movie, since it was deemed to be too gory for general audiences to handle, back when that was released. Apparently, it is the story of what a/the B-17 crew(s) went through while flying over Europe. Here's a link to a previous post here on TMP, which also has a link to help you find which theaters it may be showing in, near you: TMP link |

Here's a direct link, in case you want to find a theater near you. Just change the zipcode to your area, for theaters. link "THE COLD BLUE is a tribute to the men who won the ultimate victory – 75 years ago. Extraordinary, never before seen color footage shot by one of the world's greatest directors, William Wyler, puts you 30,000 feet over Nazi Germany, battling killer flak, enemy fighters and 60 below degree temperatures. All the odds were stacked against returning home alive – and men literally died to bring this harrowing footage into theaters today. Now, you can fly alongside the last surviving heroes who flew, who fought, who won – the men who just might have saved the world. Multiple Academy AwardŽ winning director William Wyler went to Europe in 1943 to document the Air War in progress. Wyler flew actual combat missions with B-17's – and one of his three cinematographers was killed during filming. Incredibly, all of the raw color footage Wyler shot for THE MEMPHIS BELLE was recently discovered deep in the vaults of the National Archives, and a new film has been constructed out of the material. This event will include an exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of THE COLD BLUE". |

Taking my dad to theater, told my dentist last night who's dad ( and my first dentist) was I think a navigator on a B-17 crew during WWII and think he is going to go. Even if I had HBO the big screen will be better. |

I'll wait for the HBO, after watching 50 years of war documentaries I can't believe I'll see anything that I haven't seen 20 times. |

Just viewed The Cold Blue. Amazing restoration work, great soundtrack. Liked the veterans stories. |

Loved the color and the veterans' stories. A pity it appears we didn't get to see hardly any of the new 15 hours of film footage they supposedly uncovered. I was expecting a lot more from the movie, but it is a nice tribute to those that served in the USAAC, just in time for Memorial Day, and the many men that gave their lives to help defeat the Germans, Italians, and Japanese. I'd give it 2 stars out of 5. I think Grossman has it about right. |
