Gustav Adolf is meant to have said at the start of the battle of Lutzen that the Imperial Cuirassiers were "… the men that will undo us …". Prophetic words from the King.

I have just finished a unit of Imperial Cuirassiers. To give me a nice mix of figures for the twelve figure unit I have used a mix of manufacturers for men and horses. Warlord, Perry, Horcata, Avanpost, Foundry and Front Rank. Here is what I started with.

I tried out some new brown paint triads and a new method for black armour. Here is the finished unit.

There are more pictures and details on my blog here:

Next I am painting … more TYW cuirassiers :-)

Very nice! TYW Cuirassiers are among my favourite cavalry units

Despite the wide variety of sources, they really have come together nicely as one unit. Well done. They look brill.

Impressive and grim looking unit!

Stunning work. My favourite for the period are the Redoubt chaps, big men on big horses, however your work has forced me to buy some Perry chaps this morning!

Tally Ho!

Very nice, surprisingly good fit, with so many different manufacturers, particularly that front rank and foundry fit in with Perry and Avanpost.

Thanks all – very much appreciated!

@Nickinsomerset – I really love the Perry stuff. I'm sure you will not be disappointed. :-) They are on the smaller side of 28mm, but fir ok with the ranges above. I have not done much with the 'big' 28mm ranges yet (Redoubt, Renegade, Bicorne). I think if I kept them to their own unit it could work. I will have to continue the experimentation.

@Gunfreak – the TYW and ECW Foundry stuff is quite old and was done by the Perrys. I understand that the Perry's made their own ECW range to match in height wise with the old Foundry ranges. The newer Foundry stuff is larger.

Wonderful, well painted miniatures👌.
You can see, that you put a lot of effort in it.
Thank you for sharing 🙂.

amazed you got away with so many different manufacturers and they look just fine together – I wouldn't have even thought to try that.

Thanks @BlackCavalier and @Pvt Snuffy!

I heartily recommend some mixing!

The Perry Stuff has arrived and is very nice. As are the 1st Corps chaps who arrived to boost my Old Glory unit (pack of 10) as they are the same size, mor 25 than 28,

Tally Ho!

Great stuff! I am glad you like them, Nick :-)

As is the TAG unit that arrived yesterday, very nice. (Good old TAG at the last minute changed the order as I realised that I had enough Swedish cavalry!)

Tally Ho!
