"The Star Wars prequels have become these very weird movies. As we head towards the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit the entire prequel trilogy. I genuinely thought that if they were allowed to just stand on their own, the movies may not be great, but they would at least be interesting and compelling on their own merits. Sadly, the films have not improved. I watched them with my wife, who had never seen them at all, and we both agreed that all three movies were an absolute chore. They're each bad in their own way, but what's more damning is how they don't really contribute anything to the overall Star Wars mythos. At times they even seem to contradict that mythos like when Obi-Wan says Anakin was a great pilot when they met (which only works if piloting starships is synonymous with pod racing) or that Leia remembered her mother being sad (which I guess works if her non-biological mother was sad for some reason). The weakness of the prequels led me to consider a perplexing question: should the Star Wars prequels be remade? Now that Disney has ownership of Lucasfilm, they're within their rights to do whatever they want to any of the Star Wars movies. It's their property. Back when George Lucas still owned Lucasfilm, I argued that Star Wars was his, he didn't owe fans anything, and that while you could be unhappy with his treatment of that world, those were still his choices. However, he saw fit to sell that control over to Disney, who are happily cranking out a bunch of new Star Wars movies. If you have three Star Wars movies that are generally ignored or disdained, why not try again?…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

Now that Disney owns the rights? I agree that the first three movies are bad, but they were works of genius compared to Episodes 7 & 8 (and I'm betting 9). I'd love to see Episodes 1-3 remade if they were done right (Disney call me, I have the plot all worked out!) but I see little hope for that. Let sleeping dogs lie. |

1. Generally, I'm in favor of remaking movies with a decent plot but poor execution. Anyone think those movies were well-plotted? 2. Quick show of hands: who would trust the people making the new Star Wars movies to improve much on Lucas flawed work? |

I agree with Scott W. on their relative quality, but have no desire to see them remade. Answer to Robert for question #2 is a definitive "NO" for me. Two of the things that should be improved in the 4th – 6th episodes would be the stormtroopers' ability to hit their targets when firing at them, and having their armor actually provide some protection from laser/blaster fire. Of course then, the Rebel heroes would be wiped out, and there wouldn't be much of a show, so……… |

If they somehow replace them with actual good movies, then yes. But this is disney we're talking about, so I'm not going to expect much. |

Thresher, the "Imperial Stormtrooper School of Marksmanship" is a regular joke in some quarters. You find a lot of their graduates shooting at Indiana Jones, or Arnold Schwarzenegger in his various incarnations. The Brendan Fraser Mummy movies must have swallowed entire classes of graduates. |

More princesses and more songs! And let's not forget a greater role for Jar Jar Binks!!!!! |

Have the Shards of the Past guy remake everything from and after "so what I told you is true, from a certain point of view.". Argh A retooled ROTJ. 3 new prequels. 3 new sequels. A new Solo movie,. AND a Rogue 1 that has anything to do with the movie we were promised in the trailer. Oh, and HAN FREAKIN FIRED FIRST!!!! |

Do you all really miss Jar-Jar Binks that much…? ;-) If they were assured of massive merchandising profits, sure, Disney would do it… |

I don't think Disney should redo the prequels, but if they did & hired me on as an advisor, the very first thing I would do is make Anakin a bit older in Ep1, maybe the same age as Padme, & a little more rough. Show the darkside already peeking out as a teen-ager (maybe he likes to kick puppies or already has anger management issues). it also makes the romance between him & Padme a little less weird (not that an older woman could fall for a younger man…). You could also setup some of the foundations of the romance for subsequent episodes. Also DO NOT explain where The Force comes from! So no microscopic parasites. Damon. |

Disney should hire this guy: link link link The beauty of what this guy proposes is that you don't have to throw out ALL of the original stuff, just edit differently and re-shoot certain scenes. Buck |

These were not the prequels we wanted, but I think we should just move along rather than try to go and "fix" them. I'm psyched for the end of Trilogy three – really enjoyed VII and VIII and IX could be the best of all (fingers crossed). After that – don't know, all the evil should have been sorted out, but I dare say it'll come back again…. |

the "Imperial Stormtrooper School of Marksmanship" Sure, but in other movies like Hacksaw Ridge the enemy can see and fire accurately through opaque fog. |

If they did, it should only be under the guiding hand of the team that made "Rogue One". That film ties with "Empire" for the cinematically-best SW film. Rian Johnson should never be allowed to touch the franchise again. |

Please no more Star Wars. As Sy-Fy goes it blows, redoing those 3 movies won't change that.. |
Raynman | 21 May 2019 9:06 p.m. PST |
No, just let them die in peace! The franchise is dying at Disney because the SJWs have taken it under their wing. The last few movies have been bad! Bad! Bad! |
Thresher01 | 23 May 2019 10:53 p.m. PST |
Even if they did, the more important question is, would anyone pay again to watch them at the theaters? That's a no for me. |

If you go back and look at the plot, the emperor's plan, it's a solid story. Hayden was aweful, dialogue was atrocious, but the overall story is good. I'd like to see a remake. And honestly they have to have a better Darth Vader transition. One moment he is conflicted about helping Sidious vs Mace Windu and the next moment he is cutting down children with a lightsabre. |
