… Homage to Hayao Miyazaki's Anime.

"As I was putting together my thoughts for the Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Blu-ray review, which I got to check out ahead of the film's 35th anniversary theatrical re-release, I couldn't help but wonder why we hadn't seen many attempts at bringing Ghibli (and Ghibli-esque) films to life in live-action. I figured it was only a matter of time before some studio (probably Disney) went ahead with plans to reboot the whole catalogue with an international cast of up-and-coming actors. I never would have guessed that an independent Brazilian filmmaking team would take the first step, bringing their love of Nausicaä and all things Hayao Miyazaki to life in the short film Wind Princess.

Thanks to filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who shared the fan film's short trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette on Twitter (courtesy of Catsuka), we have the first look at this not-for-profit passion project. It's inspiring to see what teams of like-minded artists can do when they really believe in something, and if we can help to spread the word about Wind Princess, we might just get to see what they can do when they have some real resources at their disposal…."

Please don't replace beautiful animation with "live action" CG.
That fan film might turn out fine, but CG shouldn't be a replacement for traditional animation.

Now a series of sequels that covers the rest of the Nausicaä manga, I'm all for that.

Now a series of sequels that covers the rest of the Nausicaä manga, I'm all for that.

You would have to reboot the entire movie then, since the movie was self contained & "over." While the manga incorporates a lot of the same elements as the movie (or vice versa, it also diverges significantly. Still, a Ghibli produced anime series based on the manga would be awesome, something I would be ecstatic to see…

Damon.
