Looking good, but what's your call on them Piers? |

Both look very good, but particularly impressed with the splinter camo. |

Lovely looking figures Piers! |

I often have the dispiriting sense that Piers could still shame most of us if all he used was an oily rag. But aside from that, can someone please explain what is actually new or special about these paints? |
Fred Cartwright | 21 May 2019 4:14 a.m. PST |
I don't think there is anything new or special, they are just packaged up in a convenient box. |

Is 'Interactive' anything more than an empty puff? For example, do these colours show relief particularly effectively, and if so how? |

No expert when it comes to acrylics but I'm using the AK pea dot set at the moment, normally use enamels. I'm quite imprerssed with them, they flow and cover better than other acrylics, the colours are pretty much spot on but need a little adjustment for 20's in my view ( they are meant for 1/35th) Not so sure about the 'definition' ( washes) that are available seperately but only played with them a little so no solid conclusions on those yet. Sigh…20mm? I'm not as good as i was before I read this post. Fantastic work! |

It sounds like they are better than I was thinking but I picked up The AK Interactive color combos for German AFV 44-45 and the bottles say brush or air. These were actually the worst paints I have ever used and the coverage was horrible. They were very thin even after shaking them for more than 5 minutes. I used a brush and painting over a bone colored spray primer. I had to give the tank 3 coats per color used and plenty of drying time between, They should look into these as if they were airbrush only I would have never picked them up. But being my first purchase of any AK paints I was totally unimpressed with them. |

@laretenue: The brand name is "AK Interactive." They aren't 'interactive paints'. |

Ak has some very good products, some others products are not that good. Like VonBlucher, I'm not too impressed with their acrylics, these colours are mainly for airbrush and much less suitable for brush. Their figure or wargames brands are better for brush (like the ones Piers uses) but no better than Vallejo except these ones can be airbrushed better than Vallejo Modelcolor (so AK is as good as Vallejo Air). Also, I'm not happy with several of their choices of colors for these boxes. However, their "Real colors" brand is quite good, these are lacquers, meant to be applied with airbrush and their own thinner (do not try other thinners) but I get really good colours for the tanks. |

@Lion: Thanks for putting me straight. How disappointing … |
