Interesting indeed! R35s and S35s in action against T-34s in 1944, in marshy-swampy forests. An interesting story, and perhaps a fertile case history for a wargaming scenario. Bien fait, mon vieux! -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

Yes, very interesting ! We all know the Germans used a lot captured equipment. But it is no real surprise the R-35s & S-35s didn't fare too well vs. the T34. |

In addition to the downright obsolete R 35s, his platoon ran into a handful of SOMUA S 35 tanks, which were at least in the same weight category as the T-34. I'll grant you that to an infantryman, any tank is scary, but comparing an S-35 to a T-34 really is a bit of a leap. Further, the S-35, with its one-man turret, would have been disadvantaged compared to a T-34 since tanks are useless if they can't spot their targets. |
