Not that keen on the rules myself (or should I say v4) but the pre-orders they have up for D Day sure look to be good value. The starter armies are all £70.00 GBP ($100) and as an example I priced up the British box contents separately as best I could, £136.00 GBP!! That's not bad IMO. Not sure if those prices are promotional D-DAY pre-order prices that will go up after 6 June or whether they'll stay the same. hard to see how they could keep the prices the same though.

They've been priced like this for awhile now. Better than before but PSC is still a lot cheaper.

British Set £70.00 GBP/$100

Hit the Beach Starter set £35.00 GBP/$50
Hit the Beach is the ultimate starter set and contains a Complete A5 Rulebook, as well as a German Army (Panzergrenadier HQ (6 figures), 2x Panzergrenadier Platoons (58 figures), 2x 7.5cm AT Guns, 3x Panzer IV Tanks) and American Army (5x Sherman (76mm) Tanks, 3x Sherman (75mm) Tanks, Parachute Rifle Platoon (32 figures).

All are amazing value but the amount of stuff in the Hit the beach set is obscene for only £35.00 GBP

I doubt the sets will go up in price after the 6th that's not something BF tends to do

Yeah I'm very tempted with the German and the HtB box. As @Andy Tea says, HtB is an amazing value box. With the German box and HtB that will give you:

1 armoured PG platoon with 251 HTs
1 PG HQ
2 PG platoons
2 x Tiger I
8 Pz IV
3 Stugs
2 88mm
2 7.5 AT guns
3 Nebelwerfers

+ 8 shermans and a para platoon to farm out if you don't use them. Plus of course 2 x A5 rule books.

Not bad for £105.00 GBP!!!

PSC is OK I find but a buddy of mine was less impressed with some of his models from them of late and, IIRC, some of the infantry also need assembly. I'm in the too lazy box for that. The BF Brit box I think has a more Brit feel to it too with the Churchills, 25lb ers, and carriers vs 14 Shermans.

Compare this to Age of Sigmar :/

BF sets are very good value for money and many should take the plundge.

"They've been priced like this for awhile now. Better than before but PSC is still a lot cheaper."

I just did the math and it is actually not cheaper with these boxed deals.

Good value but I can't stand plastic infantry.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik17 May 2019 7:54 a.m. PST

I'm in. Been planning to get into FOW V4 anyway since deciding to ditch 28mm for 15mm in WWII.

I'm not a Battlefront fan, but that HtB set is a great value.

Empgamer17 May 2019 8:47 a.m. PST

@Extra Crispy I used to feel the same about plastics but that was with regard to the Airfix shiny / bendy soft plastic of years ago. When there was little by way of good plastic out there I used metal and after much trial and error found what I liked. That said I got through loads of junk figures where the castings were atrocious and the detail, what little there was, barely distinguishable. The examples I've seen of modern plastics are mostly way better than even the best metal I was using (save for something like AB 20mm). One thing I do draw the line at though is having to glue infantry together but that's only because I can't be asked.

Between me and a buddy of mine we've decided to go for the HTB, Brit, German and US sets. Sure it'll be £240.00 GBP but split between us it's not bad. I dread to think what buying that lot by blister / platoon boxes would come out at.

Wargamer Blue17 May 2019 10:18 a.m. PST

That's great value.

Col Piron18 May 2019 5:18 a.m. PST

Yes they are a good buy for the price , but BF know its harder to get people into V4 in some countries !

Empgamer22 May 2019 6:43 a.m. PST

Do they? Is there a source for that? Still an extremely popular rule set from what I can see, as opposed to the catalogue of "me and three other players in the world love this". An exaggeration for sure but always makes me smile when I see rules recommended that you'd struggle to even find now, let alone find anyone playing.

Tgunner02 Jun 2019 1:36 p.m. PST

They've been priced like this for awhile now.

Sort of.

Yes, there were army sets that were around $80 USD or so bucks, but these sets were just something like 8 tank teams and a few guns/SPs. These sets are somewhat bigger with the similar number of tanks and guns AND a full mechanized platoon with carriers. That alone is a significant bump in the number of toys you get as you get a $40 USD+ extra platoon for only a $20 USD increase in price. Not bad at all!

Empgamer11 Jun 2019 5:27 a.m. PST

I received my Hit the Beach box today. Overall quite impressed save for one thing. I'm not entirely sure whether the infantry in it are made from the (so called) flexible plastic BF are now using, if they are it's certainly not very flexible! The plastic is grey and seems very brittle, similar to Games Workshop in hardness, and there's a few infantry figures (oddly Germans and US are on the same sprues) with white stress lines across the barrels of weapons and a few that have just broken off in transit. Castings looks good but for this box at least, flexible the plastic most certainly is not.

Think I'll probably order a platoon or two of Forged in Battle figures for each side and sub those in for the breakages. Be interesting to see what the infantry is like in the other two boxes I have on order (US and German) and whether it's as 'flexible' as Hit the Beach. Not much point using plastic infantry if the weapons are going to snap at the drop of a hat.

Impressed with the content and the value, not so much with the infantry that seem REALLY fragile.

Empgamer11 Jun 2019 6:44 a.m. PST

Confirmed in another thread. The HTB infantry are from the older starter set FOW did which was around for 6-7 years so they are the hold hard grey plastic, not the new flexible.
