A mysterious 600-year-old manuscript that has been deemed "unreadable" by the world's top cryptographers has finally been deciphered…

So what does it say?
I have an old book of "History Gone Mad" I picked up in high school in the 70s.
One of the cartoons was about the Rosetta Stone – basically suggesting that after going to great lengths to discover it's secrets – it really didn't say anything important (Dear Ramses, How are you. I am fine…)

While I cant comment about the content of the rosetta stone, knowing what it said was easy as one of the three languages on it was Greek. Being multi-language is what allowed for the hieroglyphics to be translated.

Fascinating

"has finally been deciphered"

No, it wasn't. I'm on the VMS mailing list & the solution presented there by the solver (about six months ago) has quite a few problems. The uni has even started walking back the claims. Sorry to disappoint…

"So what does it say?"

Pick up a gallon of milk, a dozen eggs, a pound of hamburger, and a half gallon of ice cream for desert.

I think somewhere there is a site which says "it has been X months since the last Voynich Manuscript decipherment." This one was especially implausible, and Bristol should be looking for a new propagandist after the announcement.

Mind you, I think it's crackable, and NSA will be thoroughly humiliated when it is. My guess? Medicine and astrology.

The VM will never be deciphered because, simply, it has no intrinsic meaning.

Whether it was put together as some sort of joke or simply as a fantastical tour de force, it is clearly meant to mystify.

It is like trying to decipher gibberish.

Apparently it's last paragraph says Hot Pie is the Prince who was promised.

"The VM will never be deciphered because, simply, it has no intrinsic meaning."

Pretty close to my theory (which is that the basis of the text is a variation of Lorem Ipsum, rendered in "mysterious glyphs".)
Oh, and some people have found automobile parts in some of the drawings… ;-)

One has to admire either the sense of humour or mischief of the original author, dedicating so much time into something that he either (successfully) tried to hide or (more successfully) tried to make fun of curious fans of cryptology.

If this had been "just gibberish" it would show in statistical analysis. If there is no sense behind, it is far more skillfull then any other fake code produced before cryptology became a science. Kudos in either case, and keep the speculations on :-)

So, the prince is promised a hot tart?

They always get the girls.
