Here are some photos of the 28mm recreation of the Battle of Asculum, 279BC, Pyrrhus vs Rome, put on by Durham Wargames Group at the Carronade show in Falkirk on 11th May.

Figures provided by Steve Spence, Jim Hall and Matt Boyd.

Figure manufacturers include: Foundry; 1st Corps; Aventine; Mirliton; Crusader; Gripping Beast; Old Glory and brand new anti-elephant wagons created for this game by Irregular miniatures.

We played the game using Warhammer Ancient Battles (WAB) version 1.5. Everything was going well until a bystander told us that WAB was no longer 'supported' by the publisher. At this point we immediately fell into a stupor, unsure of anything, no longer able to understand any of the rules we'd been playing for the last 20 years. Life is cruel.

We'll be replaying the game at the Other Partizan in Newark in August. Hopefully we'll have learned a set of rules that _is_ 'supported' by then, or flip knows what we'll do.

If the rules are unsupported does the book just fall on the floor…?

(Impressive turnout of figures, by the way!)

Figures are great. A superb matt. Who is the maker of it?

ps where did you get the war wagons? They look great!

The Matt is from Doncaster. The mat is a custom job from Deepcut Studio. Hi Simon. The wagons are from Irregular. Ian Kay made them especially, but they're also in production. I just started your dragoons today!

LOL Steve- I was going to mail you about them, this morning.

I thought I recognised the War wagons! Want some. :-)

I'm sorry to tell you that falling into a stupor and forgetting the rules is all about getting old 😜😜😜😜

Such a cool looking game! Sorry about the "stupor" – or was it torpor? Actually WAB on a large scale is great for this scenario. It always delivers cracking games. This makes the late Allen Curtis very proud, and me too.

A great looking game. Good to see WAB being played

Delighted and humbled, Jeff. Allen would have bollocked me for some anachronism or other, tho' but.

SteveTheTim, as he would have "bollocked" any us- including yours truly.
