If you're interested in the downfall of the Knights Templar in early 14th Century France, and can abide some dramatic license mixed in with your historical accuracy, this ma be a show for you! But there's only one new episode left in their season, which as the title says, will be revealed this Monday, May 13th, 2019, on HISTORY (formerly known as The History Channel) at 10PM on the East Coast.

When last we left our framed-and-wrongfully-persecuted-for-heresy Templar heroes, they were about to be burned at the stake by their Royal French enemies…

This will be the last of these posts -- unless the show gets picked up for Season 3, in which case I'll be back heralding its whereabouts some time next year. In addition to being a lifelong miniature wargamer and lover of Medieval history, I worked as a writer and Executive Producer on Season 2 and think it's a very good 8 episodes of historical fiction TV, which is why I've been flogging it here on TMP.

If the subject matter interests you but this is the first you've heard of the show, you may want to visit the History website --

-- and check out one or more of the previous Season 2 episodes, all of which are available there for free viewing, albeit with unavoidable commercial breaks. Other choices include paying over at Amazon or some other online streaming services.

After this upcoming season finale has aired, the entire Second Season will be available on Netflix, but I'm not sure how long the delay will be before it's available over there.

Meanwhile if you do watch it, I hope you enjoy!

Surely the show will go on. We must see the Templars secreting the Grail in that Scottish church and taking treasure to be buried in the new world.

@Walking Sailor: From your lips to the TV gods' ears!!!

I have no idea as to how much influence an Executive
Producer has over production values, but if someone
could convince whomever influences those things that
it is difficult, sometimes IMPOSSIBLE to see what is
happening on the screen due to the darkness which
abounds it might help those of us trying to enjoy
the series.

No kidding – I understand historical accuracy and
'setting a mood' but I also understand that the
average person, with average eyesight, needs a bit
of light by which to see.

And the sound quality – oy….

Thought Hamill did a great job !

I loved the last shot of Talus, hope to see him again in a sequel.

I actually felt that Phillip got off too easy. I could put aside the total deviation from history, but I thought I more sublime punishment would have been for Louis to knowingly let Landry slip away so that Phillip would be forever tormented by the knowledge that Landry and his daughter lives and that his son was the one responsible.

Ed:

Sorry you struggled with the darkness. I think our production values were very high overall, including the camera work, sound recording, and post production sound, but of course all these things are somewhat subjective, and your opinion is just as valid as mine. It's true that the season finale included a lot of night scenes, both Interior and Exterior. I hope you were able to see enough to follow the scene on the Palace dock. Other shows my partner and I have done in the past have won Emmys for sound editing and sound mixing and I honestly believe the quality of the sound work on KnightFall was at or very close to that same level, and not just on the mixing stage, I thought it sounded great on my TV at home also. If we do come back for another season I will keep your "it was TOO dark" note on file for future reference. Glad to hear you enjoyed Mark Hamil in the show! He was a pleasure to work with and went above and beyond the call of duty, so to speak, to help his cast-mates and our entire crew during a challenging production.

@Waco Joe:

Glad you liked that last shot of Talus, shuffling off from the scene of his one-man-army last stand, from which he managed to emerge victorious! I hear you Re: Philip deserving to suffer even more, but I'm not sure that would follow from what you describe. It's a bit like the debate between relative merits of capital punishment and life without parole. That being said, your version would definitely have mentally and emotionally devastated Philip.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts gentlemen!
