… have you painted up in your lifetime? Not mounts, or centaurs or unicorns or anything like that. Just horses. 0 1-20 21-50 51-100 101-200 201+ 300+ 500+ 1000+ |

Not up to 1000, in the 800's Now days no two are alike. |

I have 2 unmounted horses and 2 dead horses. 100 (?) or more, I suppose. |

I have 16 unmounted 28mm horses and one dead horse terrain bit (though it has Medieval equipage on it, so it might not count). I also have 16 15mm unmounted horses, but I didn't paint them. They were HO train models, and came painted. Because of the wording in the title, I will add that I have never painted a horse in a painting that was mounted (or a centaur, etc.), so probably two dozen of those. Not counting any I might have done in grade school that have been lost to the mists of time. I have never painted a live horse. |

In 50+ years I guess that 1000+ is not really a good enough measure. |
Gunfreak | 04 May 2019 7:51 a.m. PST |
I think I've painted 1 or 2 dead horses. All other horses would be cavalry horses. |

300+, but they are all "mounts" except for the chariot and wagon horses…. |

I have been getting pictures of horses on picture posting sites and then try to copy it as best I can on a 15mm horse. Started with dun horse types today but now going to try Kentucky derby horses. Your average Cossack doesn't get thoroughbreds often but guess they could have stole them. |

Probably close to or maybe a bit more than 1,000. What with seven or eight 17th-18th century armies(with cavalry), 4 rather large 16th century armies, 1 of which was Poles (mostly cavalry) so a couple hundred there alone, and a Alexandrian army which had a goodly amount of cavalry. |

I'd say 0-- all my horses are working horses, although maybe I should count the off- side members of the caisson/ wagon/ limber teams. |

Just horses – probably less than 40. Including cavalry mounts – thousands I suppose. A couple of times, I have painted all the horses for a 15mm army all in one batch – so 100 or more at a time. It is a real chore but it gets it out of the way. It also means that I get the advantages of painting lots of the same colour at once but still end up with a good mix. |

I suspect that by "mounts" the OP was referring to fantastical creatures with riders, not horses with riders. If so, 21-50 |

A "Mount" is a horse meant to be "mounted" by a rider. There goes all the cavalry. This includes horses saddled, but not mounted, held by horse holders. However I see a loophole. The questioner does not rule out draft horses. So carts and wagons are in, but from limber horses must be deducted a certain percentage as the artillery employ out riders. A few dozen? |
Chuckaroobob | 06 May 2019 10:07 p.m. PST |
0. They all have riders or are hitched to something. |
Flashman14 | 07 May 2019 4:27 p.m. PST |
Whoops, by mounts I meant simply fantastical creatures that seat riders. By horses I mean horses, riderless or not. |
