So we had a poll on which rules (if any) people think players should "move on" from to something better. So let's reverse that! Which older rules or editions, if any, do you think people should instead return to or stick with, instead of using the latest iteration/popular set? Make your suggestions below! (Otherwise, this will be a very short poll.) My only "go back/stick with" rules are: Space Hulk 1st Edition "Basic" D&D BECMI boxed sets edition Warmaster/Warmaster Ancients (well, there really aren't any further editions, just new, competing games) X-Wing 1st Ed. Classic Traveller To the Editors: I note that this poll can cover almost every genre/period/scale/interest group. Therefore I leave any crossposting decisions to you! |

Definitely stick with X-Wing 1st Edition for non-tournament play! Original D&D White Box + Greyhawk, etc. DBA 2.2 (with or without 2.2+ modifications) |

X-Wing, for sure! WRG ancients, 4th edition, always played best. |

Gee, Parzival, I couldn't disagree with your list more. It should be D&D White Box Space Hulk 1st Edition ;) Also AD&D 1st Edition – really a different game than D&D GURPS, 1st Edition, not that new editions of GURPS were popular (or the original, for that matter) Mage Knight Dungeons – Note, this is the proper rule set for MK and HeroClix Pong – All other video games are tripe. Every sport on Earth that currently has video review. Gamma World |

AK-47. First edition for sure. |

I don't know about other people but I stayed with JR2 for a good long while and didn't like JR3. Then I figured out that I didn't like JR2 anymore either. One of our members runs AOE games with the first edition and does not like the 2nd edition. |

On to Richmond! Crossfire Space Hulk Might of Arms (as a foundation for tinkering….🤪) |

Back to Koneigskreig (SYW rules), 2nd edition. |

Ones I would suggest: AD&D 1st Edition over later editions of D&D. Warhammer Fantasy 3rd Edition over later versions. Wings of War (1st edition) over Wings of Glory. Battlelore 1st Edition instead of the last version. I'm also tempted to say SAGA 1st edition over 2nd edition based on reviews that I've read, but I really want to try 2nd edition on my own to make final judgement. But it's worth adding to this voting list. |

Wings of War (1st edition) over Wings of Glory. I didn't realize WoG had different rules than WoW. I just thought it was bought and rebranded. |

Column, Line and Square 2nd ed. |

X-Wing. See no point in buying conversion sets for stuff I already have that works perfectly well. |

You're correct, etothepi. The rules are unchanged (as far as I can tell), and you can use the planes, bases, and cards from all editions together with no problems. My group does this all the time. Granted, we've never done a direct comparison of the written rules for the two editions, but I don't recall ever finding a contradiction between them after numerous plays, even on the rare occasions we've had to look something up. Even the rules for the big bombers are no different. |

Some more that I've seen causing controversy: AD&D 2e (I know this is controversial to some people, but I do mean the core rules, not the "Player Options" stuff, which is a bridge too far.) Warhammer Ancient Battles |
