Greetings Folks. I have a quick question for anyone who has experience with the Perry French medieval boxed set. I can't tell from online pictures (not enough detail) what exactly the spear arms on the sprue look like. What I intended for them is to add them to either the Perry War of the Roses Bill & Bow bodies or the Agincourt English bodies in order to make up a levied spear unit. If you can give any advice as to whether this conversion would work and if so, which bodies would work best it would be much appreciated. |

The French infantry sprue comes with six spears. Three of these are held in one hand, and tend to look best on bodies standing on the spot, with their spears pointing upwards. Another three spears are held in two hands, and are more suitable for bodies advancing with the spears leveled. The level of armour on these arms varies. Some have uncovered hands, others have gauntlets, and many have cloth armour. I have used these spears both with Perry WotR and Agincourt to English bodies; I would especially recommend the one-handed spears with the English bodies, and the two-handed spears with no armour on the arms with the WotR bodies. Also included in the set is a men-at-arms sprue with two more spears, both held two-handed and with plate armour covering the arms. |

As for pictures of the French infantry sprue, have you seen this one from Perry website? Unfortunately it is just from one side.

Thank you Greif! That's encouraging! I had seen that pic, I just had trouble making out what if any was the armor/cloth on the arms. Actually, that picture is better quality than the one I saw on Google. I will definitely give the conversions a shot. Thnx! |

The 15th century Perry sets mix quite well, and if you like to do conversions for that century they are a base that should not be missed. A joy to work with… |

On retrospect, I forgot to mention that two of the arms on the infantry sprue actually have plate armour protection, so are more suitable for better armoured combatants – I have even used some of those with the English men-at-arms. Also, you can further expand the applicability of those spear arms by cutting the hand off at the wrist and then glueing to some other arm. |
