We saw Edd at the Umber castle with 4? Men. At Winterfell, he didn't seem to have any other NW men around him, except Sam. Edd died, but was briefly resurrected by the NK. Except for Sam, has the NW been wiped out? Is Sam now the 1000th Lord Commander? (Did Edd even have a Choosing?) More to the point, now that all of the Wildlings are either dead or south of the Wall, and the NK is now "really dead", is there any need for the NW now? |

I think we will find that there were a lot more survivors than it appeared. |

I'd assumed that with the wildlings crossing over, AND the destruction (or at least major breaching) of The Wall, the NW as we knew it was ended. With the White Walkers vanquished, that really makes them seem defunct. |

Well after the Night King dying the far North will start to thaw out and go back to being green. So there will no longer be a need for the Night Watch. That does mean that the Stark's control the largest area of the Kingdom. |

I'm not sure any of the Night watch remain at this point, apart from Sam who deserted….not that they have a reason to exist anymore, the army of the dead is gone, the white walkers are gone, the surviving Wildlings are all living in the North. |

Sam didn't desert. He was given permission to go to the Citadel by the Lord Commander. Which is different from the books, where Jon orders him to go. |
