You were asked – TMP link

Were you ever (even casually) part of a Youth Subculture in your day (or currently?)

49% said "I was not part of a youth subculture"
30% said "I was part of a youth subculture"
1% said "I am currently part of a youth subculture"

The word "Hippie" comes to mind- seems more sinister now than then.

Or a lot less depending on your own political comfort zone. Be careful of stereotyping labels of a "sinister" nature less you find you too get judged as part of the problem.

As for those who weren't able to self describe themselves as part of a youth culture, perhaps dunning Kruger is the main operative.

Does Army Brat count?

I am my own, one of a kind, old subculture.

I should think that, as a youth, you were part of a youth subculture, even if it was "mainstream". Kind of by default, being a youth and all.

Yes, 19 and carrying an M16. Does that count?

To paraphase the great Winston, Churchill that is, not the TMP one,
"If you are under 20 and not a liberal, you have no heart. If you are over 40 and not a conservative, you have no brain." or words to that effect. So, yes. I was a bit of a "hippie" in early 70s.

Judging everyone else by his own standards as usual, pity he didn't judge himself by the standards of others a bit more often.

Who?

I just hope I am not part of certain old man sub-
cultures, but worms gotta eat.
