You need to appreciate that OZ has comparatively little in the way of quality museums, especially those relating to warfare. This is due to its short history (the European bit) and isolation from world affairs. There's the Canberra War Memorial but not a lot else. However, I was in Cairns (in Far North Queensland) & saw a building signed as the "Australian Armour and Artillery Museum". I wasn't expecting much but it was fantastic. Several large buildings were stuffed with WW2 & Cold War tanks, vehicles, artillery, uniforms, small arms etc. Whilst not quite Bovington, it was very good indeed. It's owned by a Millionaire & he's always adding to the collection. Well worth a visit if you're in the vicinity. ausarmour.com |

If you make it to the other end of Oz, the Armour Museum at Puckapunyal (in Victoria) is definitely worth a visit! |

It's a great museum. We went between Christmas and New Year, in the early stages of the wet season. The tank track was under water, so no rides for us, but it was well worth a visit. When we were leaving they told us they had plans to double in size by March this year. It was already impressive in size then. Will definitely be going again, although not in the wet season! Cairns is really nice to. Especially if you are over 21st century cities. |

Even so, it would keep me entertained for a few hours! |

And a plus is that Cairns is the home of Gerry Webb's Castaway Arts Miniatures. Jim |

My son & I spent about 3 1/2 hours there whilst the women-folk shopped. Everyone was happy. |
