Help! What do you suggest for c1560 French Hugenot Privateers raiding the Spanish colonies of the Caribbean?

I would definately go with the Foundry Sea dogs, firstly they are attired for the sea e.g. bare feet, loose trousers etc and have that Privateer feel.

I would also have a look at Vendel Elizabethan range which would have some suitable poses for French and or Spanish

Don't overlook Games Workshop's limited edition "Marco Columbo" figure, who might prove useful. He's available through their online store.

Speaking of the GW range there are some potential minis for 16 century. It is a long time since I bought from these, I knew from TMP that prices had been hiked but when looking at their classic ranges (which I take to mean older figures) in the Empire range 16 handgunners, plastic multi part minis – £49…… !!!! surely some mistake

Arquero barbaro Foundry sea dog will fit well but taka also a look at vendel elizabhetan some of them can help you to build a good sea raiders bunch.

best regards

Just bought some Vendel Elizabethans….excellent figures and clearly fit in the period.

SEa Dogs, hands down.

Vendel's Border Reivers could fit the bill, but you should be careful to paint them in proper colours (mostly blacks, deep blues or dark browns), as you want them to pose a Hugenotes.

Foundry's are perfect and would really capture the ragtag look of those raiders' clothes.

"El Dorado Adventurers" might work for SOME commanders of th eraiding forces or as "victims" to the raiders, but mostly they are quite Spanish in looks, so the Hugenote aesthetic might be missing altogether.

Have fun,
Javier.

Check out ebay. There are plenty of people wanting to find them new homes.

Be carefull of GW stuff. They are big in size. I have some of the older empire figs and they dwarf my current foundry stuff. Plus, I think they are duded up in fashions that are too southern and too early.
just me 2 cents.
Oh, SeaDogs, no doubts

SeaDogs – can't have enough!

I'm not a fan of these two Foundry lines for this period. Vendel is good. Also Monolith Designs has some good border reivers see: link

If you want something a bit different try a Spanish firm called e-minis: link
