Good find, Tango! The Grenadier is full regalia was worth the study.

Does anyone know if the cross-belts of the time were ever leather (these appear to be possibly plastic, and noticeably whiter than the lapels – who should have been the case.)

Can anyone say more about this? It seems to have been shown at the Musee de L"Armee at Les Invalides in 2018.

they were "buffle" – leather which took quite a while to process, in the end being white leather, that one was then whitened with pipeclay or other agents, so in peace time it should be clean and white and yes brighter than the lapels.

Yes poor old hard working and abused Berthier, even looking at the window, as to jump out of it every second – and then Josephine – talking about strategy.
