Yes, the French government had to pay for the taxis, but the taxis of the Marne is still one of the great stories to come out of the First World War. Grelber |

In 2014, we put on a huge demonstration 'game' of the First Battle of Marne. It reproduced the whole battlefield across 50' of tables, with more than 10,000 6mm figures. Here is a photo of the tables: link The whole project is described here: link We were fortunate to be given access to the beautiful Marne battles commemorative chapel in Dormans, which is located in the heart of what was the battlefield. Hundreds of French visitors came. The most common question was: 'Where are the taxis?' ;-) Robert |

I heard the cab drivers were up set by the French winning. They were hoping to pick up the Germans as return fares. |

Great looking model, but yes, it was some "tough times". And the French deployed their soldiers by cab. |
