Hello all, im new to this period and need some assistance. I have recently purchased a large lot of 28mm star wars figures and vehicles. Which rules are recommended to use? Thanks in advance.

@OSL2000

If you want to stick with the SW universe and canon, 'SW: Legion' would be the obvious choice. If not, generic rules such as Osprey's 'Rogue Stars' or THW's '5150' should work

Fistful of Lead's Galactic Heroes is good too.

Fubar for large battles. I have run games with 200 plus infantry and 30 plus vehicles in 2.5 to 3 hours. Smaller games I like Galactic Heroes. About a squad per player.

Thanks

28mm Fanatik pardon my ignorance but besides the core rule book and figures what else do you need to play Legion. Also are these rules for small engagements or larger?

Try Combat Patrol with the free Star Wars supplement.

I don't play it but I believe SW:L is scalable and can be played small or large, depending on how many figures you have or would like to use. It also has unit cards but if you can get the data on them elsewhere you won't have to buy the figures they come with.

FUBAR for large games, as said.

Flying Lead or Mutants and Death Ray Guns from Ganesha Games (both use the Song of Blades and Heroes system). The later has the Psi Knights in the latest supplement that are basically Jedi.

Combat Patrol as Buck suggested

I have played quite a few games (with the old WotC minis) using stargrunt. Both rebellion era and clone wars.
SWL does seem more suited to smaller scale battles (in my view) and strictly speaking does require the unit cards etc.
SWL is probably the way to go if you want to find other players, but if you are happy on your own or with a regular group not wedded to shiny new rules, then any of the suggestions above would work.

There were some attempts to convert LOTR SBG (now Middle Earth SBG) for Star Wars. Ithink this would work well as the Magic can be be Exchanged for the Force with a set amount of points and skills for the characters. The Might and Fate points also make non-Force heroes work well. I think making the Ranged combat work would be the difficulty.

Cheers

I second Rogue Stars, or a custom set like Herkybird's.

Legion is a little too card-driven for my tastes. One drawback I found to Rogue Stars is that I find it hard to get cannon-fodder type models, (but it is good if you want Stormtroopers to be more than crappy, throw-aways).

Haven't played Herkybird's yet, but it has some unique mechanics such as rolling not to get "hit", but instead to survive the firefight.

For me, the simpler the better, so a simple custom ruleset is best for me, but I prefer playing smaller skirmish games with no vehicles.

Bear in mind that Legion uses its own figure scale (larger than 28mm) and you must buy those figures as you need the cards and other info in the boxes to play the game.

So not good if you already have a SW 28mm figure collection. The figures are even incompatible with Imperial Assault made by the same company.

West End Games Star Wars Miniatures Battles.

We have used Flying Lead and Mutants and Deathray Guns for SW skirmish, and they work well if you enjoy the activation system. You may want to try Grimdark Future which is the sci fi rule set by One Page Rules. They are free and work pretty well for larger sized sci fi games. You could simply just adapt one of the army lists to work for SW. Hope iit helps.
