"What Do You Think About The Plan To Defend Winterfell?" Topic

If you saw the last episode, you watched the High Command discuss their plan to defend Winterfell, complete with little wooden blocks and a model of the castle.

So what do you think of their plan?

It's so dumb, only Jon Snow, excuse me Aegon Targaryen, could have come up with it.
Bran is obviously the key. So let's stake him out like the goat in Jurassic Park, with Theon defending him. Let me check my Encyclopedia Westerosica for the House Greyjoy Valyrian steel swords. There aren't any???

I understand that the "Castrati" are in charge of the center… Sir/Lady Brian … in charge of the left flank… guess that the huge cavalry is in reserve (?)… who is in charge of the right flank?…

Also see few units inside Winterfeld (militia-archers?).

One Dragon to defend Bran and the other to fight against the Zombie Dragon and Night King…

Imho the only other strategy was to march all of them to Bear Island …

Could be that the Night King fly direct to Kings Landing?
There are a millon possible zombies there… (smile)

Everyone seems to forget the baddies have a Dragon.

The dragon is flying south to Kings Landing so the Night King can woo Cersei. He has more going for him than Euron.

Well they seem to have made a few good moves- with successive layers of obstacles, walls and ditches, all defended, and all liberally covered in shards of dragon glass.

But I'm not sure that when fighting the Undead sending all the noncombatants into the place where you bury your dead is a battle winning move.

The Dead in there are all Starks so maybe they cannot be turned.

Any plan that involves the Living moving forward and exposing their flanks to a vastly larger force is crazy, period. The idea of putting Unsullied in the center just smacks of a Cannae in the making.

Actually, however, the idea of using Bran as bait is not the worst idea. If you accept the premise that the Living cannot win the battle, betting everything on killing the Night King is your best option. We will see if their specific plan is stupid or effective.

Well the plan turned out to be, throw away cavalry in a charge in the dark against a foe you cannot see. throw away infantry in a fight outside the walls that gained you nothing and then try to hold the walls with remnants. Get massacred and snatch a win with an assassination. Gather handful of survivors around and try to work out how your going to clear up the corpses out of Winterfell and then how the eight to ten of you are going to defeat Cersei……or just send Arya south.
