We decided to play a Napoleonic Song of Drums and Shakos skirmish but to go exotic so headed to the Balkans. Russians vs Ottomans! We played the Supply Convoy Ambush scenario from the More Song of Drums and Shakos Rules. It all looked easy for the Russians but the wheels fell off during turn one and the initiative turned over early! Given the opportunity a sudden rush of Ottomans looked on the point of overwhelming the Tsar's men but the defenders held on. Beset from two directions and even though there just seemed never to be enough men to cover both avenues of attack the Russians continued to inflict casualties on the Bashi Bazouks. In a violent seesawing five turn game either side could win as both took casualties at an alarming rate. In the end the Ottomans with the initiative on turn five and inflicted a couple of crucial hits that put the Russians to flight. The Russian mule train enters what would become the glade of death…
Overview at the end of turn three; the Russians having held the Turks to the right of the mule train move to face the other group approaching along the road…
The Ottoman view along the road as Russians rush to face them!

Nice. I picked up some 54mm plastics and I am thinking about using those rules with them. |
