I started writing a blog entry about flags and colours of the Civil Wars, but it sort of got a little out of hand and became three entries.
Part 1 looks at heraldry and the various flag systems used link
Part 2 looks at surviving flags and contemporary evidence link
Part 3 reviews currently published books on the subject link

Plus I've also managed an update to the ECW travelogue link adding Turton Tower to the Houses of Interest: Lancashire post

There's a new Book coming from Helion, written by Stephen Ede Borrett, that should be published this year. This volume is a single book that will contain both foot and cavalry colours. It should be a good one.

Really nice summary KYPD

I have seen the new Helion volume in their lists for a while. Leaving aside the text I do feel they are missing a trick with "16 colour plates and over 200 b/w illustrations". I know it vastly increases retail price (and potentially reduces sales) but books on flags really do need to be full colour.

Thanks Timbo.

KYPD – that's disappointing to read – I agree flags really do need to be shown in colour.

Anything by Stephen Ede-Borrett is worth snapping up. Very knowledgeable and very thorough.

The Ede-Borrett volume has disappeared completely from the Helion lists.

I know there were a few volumes with publication dates that have been and gone on the listings (these dates have now been altered), but the flags book has just gone completely
