I guess it is to be expected that at a certain point in life your sarissa just doesn't have the old "oomph" that it used to. So I swallowed my pride and went to one of "those" websites and purchased something to help. I must say that after a day of using them my right hand is pretty sore but I can't argue with the results. Here is a before and after pic:

So thanks to On Military Matters and North Star pikes my HaT phalanxes are once again ready to tickle the fancy of the eastern hordes.

Hammered and filed tips of brass 20 g wire (twisted first a 1/2 turn or so with two pairs of pliers on each end of the wire to work harden and straighten it) make pretty straight and durable spears. I use the technique on silver earring hooks. Parallel pliers are useful too.

joe; good job, they do look impressive now. I never liked bent pikes.
