"Amidst policy woes with the United States, Iran showcased its new fighter during the Thursday National Army Day Parade in Tehran, hoping to strike fear into the West with the country's first indigenous fighter aircraft.

There's just one problem- not only is it not particularly terrifying, the United States built the original plane it is based on.

Looking like an ancient F-5 variant that famously played the bad guys in Top Gun, the Kowsar (meaning "river in paradise") fighter is essentially just that- an aircraft the US gave to South Vietnam during the Vietnam war, albeit with a few design tweaks…"

So, and F-5E/F=20, with twin-tails…….

Might scare local tribesmen and their animals, but not much else.

ROFL Zoom in on the tailfin and look at how crude that weld is. My guess is that this is a Junker F-5 left over from the Shah they have gussied up to dupe the locals. Bet you will never see one in flight.

You'd lose that bet.

Old tech, but they fly em.

Video of two-tail rotating on take-off and touching down. One (repeated) video of two-tail in flight (gently) banking away (e.g., 5:35). Stills of two-tail in flight? I'd like to see putting some G on those tails. It takes some re-engineering of frames to change the mounting points for two rudders on airframes built for one.

Weld? Hell, that looks more like silicone caulk.

Its all propaganda, just for domestic TV audiences.

This is a regime that issued plastic made-in-china charms to ward off bullets to its school boy squads during the Iran-Iraq War. Nothing they say or announce can be believed.

At least the pilot can actually fit inside this one, unlike their previous attempt at a make-believe stealth fighter.
