Personally, I would have gone with "this is ridiculous". Next week, "Who was the greatest Emperor of France 1804 – 1814/15 ?" |

Yeah, these last poll results that Bill has posted have been quite EYE OPENING and not in a beneficial way either. |

oooh oooh Trajanus…Napoleon? :) Wellington always has his detractors. I personally think he was brilliant. Kept the British Army together after some bloody battles and a brutal withdrawal into Portugal. Siege warfare?…meh, not the luckiest there. |

Seriously? That was really a poll? +1 to Trajanus Might I suggest a poll that would actually generate a bit more variety of opinion? "Which general of the Napoleonic Wars would you most like to go for a pint with?" :-) |

Who was the greatest Emperor of France 1804 – 1814/15 None? France was ruled by a General during that period, a very good general but just a okish civilian leader. |

I would argue Moore could potentially have been as good or better than Wellington, IF he had survived the 1808-9 campaign. He didn't. So he didn't have the total body of work that Wellington did. |

It's a pretty open question whether Moore – a noted and vocal Whig – could have built the essential relationship with London that Wellington managed to do. And that's before you consider that Moore widely broadcast his opinion that Portugal could not be defended – an act that hugely added to Wellington's difficulties as he set out to prove the opposite. |

@Musketballs, Do you think that the reverse is true – could/would Wellington have managed to pull off the same move as Moore? |

Good points Musketballs, as always the political elements play a factor. |
