Please see link for a refight of the battle of Altdorf from the start of the Austrian invasion of Bavaria in 1809, using Baccus 6mm figures and the Polemos General de Division rules with a scenario from Michael Hopper's "Eagles Over Bavaria" book.

Hello Whirlwind, as always enjoy your reports. We were talking about RdG and the Polemos MdE rules and you thought at the time the Napoleon is set might still be better/preferable to some for tempo & orders, combat, movement rate and formation/army morale. After more games , have you changed your thoughts? Mark |

Hi Mark, Not substantially yet. RdG is the better game, as a game, no doubt. Its systems just work better, partly because they are like a streamlined and developed version of GdD and the author has a veteran player's sense of what works on the tabletop. Having the individual skirmish bases is fun too and may actually be a better representation than the "skirmish levels" of GdD. On the other hand, RdG uses a variable scale that I am not that comfortable with (the game works the same whether a base represents 75 men or 750 men) – I recognize this is a personal quirk and lots of players (probably rightly) don't care. Plus I would have to have a couple of days sit down and think about how I would incoporate the wider variety of cavalry types. In any case, RdG won't replace MdE since they are designed at different levels of combat. I still very much enjoy both games, so more coming up next month. |

Thank you Whirlwind. I'm having some problems with the equal TPS and the D10. Mark |
