Been painting some more Byzantines for my mate Colin, they are quite nice miniatures, I think Eureka, but not sure.

Well done. Nice colors and painting style.

Nice painting. That's a particularly great shade of blue! The Byzantines were capable of producing some incredible blues on their mosaics and book illuminations and I was always annoyed by the way they messed it up with lots of gold! What paint did you use for the blue?

Sacre Bleu!

Not sure how accurate a rich blue spear shaft would be. Blue pigment was very very, expensive. It often came from Lapis Lazuli. Field garb would be much more muted despite how fine ithese look in your display case or on your tabletop. Nicely done in any case.

I recall having the blue discussion with the late Lamented Allen Curtis. There was a cheaper source of blue pigment, from Egypt.

So blue for shields, say, might be practical. It's a different blue to the spear shafts, though.

Blue can be achieved with copper and vinegar on wood, not as bright as this though

Actually I correct myself- it's not that dissimilar to the colour of the spear shafts. :-)
