For running a campaign of a racing game, how would you prefer to assign victory points at the end of the season based on total number of finishes in the top 3 (tie-breaking goes to most 1st place, then most 2nd place): * 4 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd. * 10points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd. * 12 points for 1st, 5 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd. * Other, please describe. * No opinion. * No interest in racing games. |

I have begun pondering this due to the imminent release of the Wacky Races board game, and my own concurrent related purchase of Mad Maximillian. The original Wacky Races cartoon always announced the top 3 finishers at the end of each race. The internet being what it is, kindly folk have already tabulated all the results. But there is no official point system for assessing who was the great Wacky Races victor at the end of the season. link Out of curiosity, I popped the numbers into excel to try various numbers to see what might work well for a racing campaign. With the formulae above, the results come in as: Boulder Mobile and Bullet Proof Bomb in 1st or 2nd. Buzz Wagon, 3rd. Compact Pussycat, 4th. [big shuffle in the middle ranks for 5th-8th depending on formula] Convert-a-Car, 9th. Army Surplus special, 10th The Mean Machine, 11th |

One more choice option: * 10 points for 1st, 8 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd. Just got a copy of The Wacky Races Handbook (2010) which does retro-fit this as the points system. It puts a premium on number of finishes in the top 3 over wins or second-places. This puts the Boulder Mobile in 1st, Army Surplus Special stays in 10th, and 2nd-9th all get shuffled. |
