I'm a stranger to the Fantasy boards, but while reading a newish colonial Australia history book, 'Frederick Walker: Commandant of the Native Police', about the founder and first Commandant of the New South Wales/Queensland Native Police in 1849, I came across the following passage in one of his monthly reports to the Colonial Secretary: 'The Aboriginal natives on the Murray(River) remain peaceable, but those on the Darling have been committing great depredations, one case of assault on a shepherd is I believe unprecedented and at first I could not believe it, but Frederick Gardiner JP having in conjunction with me held an enquiry, we have found that a large number of Aboriginal Natives surrounded the man named in the margin (Theophilus Jones), tied him down, gagged him, blindfolded him and bled him in the neck, and then sucked his blood to such an extent that the man was senseless for a considerable time.' Two paragraphs on in the same report he says: 'I have information that the principal ringleader concerned in the assault named in the 4th paragraph is at a station higher up the river. I therefore hope to apprehend him.' I imagine him setting forth with a patrol, every man carrying a wooden stake in addition to his carbine. This might make a suitable scenario for IHMN. |

Aboriginal figures are a rarity. I have not seen any. May require a slightly different setting, or substitutions |

Well, some people have been using Eureka's Denisovans as a close approximation; not ideal from the perspective of costume and adornment, but until someone makes the real thing… Blaze Away Miniatures had a small selection of Aboriginal warriors in production for a few years that you might still be able to pick up second-hand. |

That really should have been '… from the perspective of costume, adornment, and weapons,…'. Historically every warrior in a clan would be distinguished by the same hair style and range of adornments. They'd also be equipped with the same style of, and usually the same set, of weapons, e.g. in a woomera using clan they'd all have a woomera and the complementary light spears. Weapons not in use would be tucked in a belt. The Eureka figures have various hair styles, differing equipment and costume, and don't have spare weapons, and a couple of them are using spears two-handed, which Aboriginal warriors didn't do. |
