Looking for some input on best figure line or lines compatible with each other for making a Republican Roman army of the Punic War era. |

I love victrix and Agema… have you seen them ? you can combine with Victrix italians to do Roman and Allied legions.. cheers Feancisco |

I prefer Aventine in metal. I also like the Victrix plastics, but I'd avoid their really too large cavalry. |

Here are blogs with comparisons: link link I like Relic, Agema and Victrix. I haven't seen Aventine or Crusader up close, but they seem to be very popular. |

Some great ideas above. It is hard not to find a great Punic Wars army in 2019. I've always loved the old Foundry line. I built that army 25 years ago, and expanded it this year, using Gripping Beast shields so that I could use Little Big Men decals. Just great figures, with lots of character. IMO, the best kneeling triarii ever made. Newline is another overlooked option, especially if you like more proportional figures. |

I think it depends greatly on how much you want to spend on doing your Roman units. The Victrix boxed sets can sometimes be found on Ebay for around $40 USD, which gets you 56 figs, or enough to do the small unit basing for a legion using Hail Caesar. There's a variety of heads and arms available, plus the LBMS transfers fit perfectly on the shields. Aventine or others, who all have great lead figures, will probably run you about twice that much, so it definitely depends upon how much you want to invest. |

In my consular army i have Victrix plastic for velites, hastati and Principes; and Aventine for triarii, cavalry and Generals. For consistency I just used Victrix plastic shields and LBMS transfers for the Triarii too. |

I have been working on Republican Romans in 28mm over the last year. I have purchased for it- Crusader Victrix plastics Aventine Newline Designs Crusader is my favorite by personal preference, but all the others are very good. We can meet up and I can show you what I have so you can compare. I have a bunch of unpainted that I will not need, so that may be an easy way for you to get into it if you are interested. While I was building the army I got over eager and purchased way to many as I ran into sales. I live in Erie and we work in same plant. Joe |

Give Old Glory a look??? Made not only right here in the USA, but also in a factory right here in Pa???? Save some money and have a great looking army at the same time. Regards Russ Dunaway |

The Old Glory command are essentially the same as the Ceasar's army command set – I can confirm they are nice figures. A little smaller than Victrix but the price is good (especially with the Old Glory Army membership). One maker that is overlooked (because they do not list their figures as Republican Romans!) is BlackTree Design. They have 3 sets of Republican Romans: link link link I do not have the Velites, but the "praetorians" are VERY nicely detailed and their size goes well with Victrix. (caveat emptor – BTD is not shipping orders very well due to one owner's father dying) |

Aventine for metal and Victrix for plastics, you should very happy with those two ranges. |
