I first heard about Urban War 12 or 13 years ago. Didn't think much of it. 2 years ago I found myself looking at the cool minis for the game. What little I could find about actual gameplay painted it as something I would like. Couldn't find a 2nd edition rulebook, sighed in despair, chalked it up as a "grail" game that I might not ever own. I found a pdf of the 2nd edition rules last night on Wargame Vault. Bought it for 6 bucks and change, did not really do a happy dance, told the cats about it but they were unimpressed and said nothing. Thought about waking my wife up to tell her but she doesn't play minis games and the result would have been bad. So this is kind of a dead game. Scotia Grendel sells minis, there's more available on Ebay. A hardcopy 2E rulebook can't be had in the US as far as I can tell. I am buying in, a gaming buddy of mine will try it. I'm leaning towards playing Vasa or Gladiators. It's a minis game that's available at reasonable prices. Not much on the internet about the game and that includes fb groups. I found urbanwar.nl and it's a good resource so far. My google fu is strong but there's not a lot out there dealing with Urban War. I'm going to comb the TMP forums today for Urban War posts. I would like to know what TMPers that have played Urban War think about it. What faction did you play or play against and what did you like or dislike about those factions? Good game or was it like being forced to listen to Creed? If there's internet resources I'm missing I would like to hear about those too. So, how was Urban War? |

I never bought into UW (aka Void) but I remember being tempted by the Viridians faction because the minis looked pretty cool, so I can't comment on the gameplay aspect but you can always look for comments and reviews online such as BGG and Beasts of War: link link |

Thanks for the links. I hit BGG last night but did not look at the Void page. I'll check out Beasts of War. |

It's funny you posted this as I have been looking at it also. I downloaded the rules last week and have been pondering it ever since. |

I have heard that Void is to WH40K what UW is to Infinity or Kill Team. The rules share the same DNA but one is designed for larger battles. |

OneHuai thanks a lot but I've already printed most of the pdf. 28mm Fanatik yep, skirmish and platoon-ish scale. Talked to my buddy and we're playing Urban War leaning towards Metropolis. Honestly I love researching new (or new to me) games to play. One of my favorite parts of the hobby. Off to find out more about Metropolis |

VOID is in practice more different from Urban War than you might think just by looking at the surface. The 2nd edition of UW brought it back a bit so it's closer now than in the 1st ed, but still not very alike. If you want a platoon scale game that's more like UW you'll want Metropolis. I personally don't think it's as close as the authors would like us to think either, but closer than VOID all the same. |

eltonscotia if you still ship to the US I foresee a Scotia Grendel shopping spree in my future. Nobleknight order DONE. Got a Gladiator Strike Team to get my opponent started and a decent-sized UW VASA force for myself. Seriously considered grabbing Gladiators for myself because they look so good but I want high tech in my SF games. At least a 3rd of the way to a platoon though I haven't gone over the Metropolis force building rules yet. I probably would have gone with Syntha if there was a 2E starter available domestically but oh well. They or the Byzantine heavy infantry, I mean Junkers, might be a 2nd force. The Junkers look so freaking cool. Horde lists aren't my playstyle of choice though. My VASA look great and are a good mix of CC and shooting plus they jump around. This is going to be fun. |
