You were asked – TMP link

While wargaming, are IPAs the best beverage trend in a generation or akin to Cthulhu's smegma (undrinkable)?

Like sphincters: everybody has one and some of them stink! ;-)

I've always liked IPAs but in the last couple years I realized they tend to have higher alcohol content than other brews so I don't have IPAs as often any more.

For beer to accompany gaming, I would say Guinness stout is the best beverage. It has a strong flavor and I find as it gets warm, I take smaller sips, so it can last a long time. Second, it has relatively low alcohol content compared to other strong flavored beers.

Also, we're talking about Guinness here. It's the perfect food.

I prefer a heavier ale myself but would drink IPA in preference to lager…

I don't care for hops, so that makes IPAs problematic. Give me a Belgian or German double bock any day!

Love IPA.

I wish more British style IPAs were available in the US (but not that vile Greene King) I do miss the 400lb monkey from Left Hand. Not so crazy hopped, but imperial IPAs do up the malt to keep it in balance with the hops. Too I miss a lot th British Bitter real ale style. Malt forward, low alcohol and carbonation but bigger pints.

I do tend to drink IPA too quickly and have found myself going to Belgians or Saisons for a more contemplative quaff. Not a fan of Porters or Stouts that get too licorice or coffee flavored.

It's not IPA until its been to India (ideally from Burton On Trent)….on a sailboat….slowly.
